Privacy policy

This is a translation of the German version for your convenience. If the two ever differ, the German version applies. Read the German version
Summary
Your birthdays, names, phone numbers, gift ideas and photos stay on your iPhone or iPad and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud. We don't run a server and can't see them. The free version shows ads from Google; for this, data from your device goes to Google, and for ads tailored to you only with your consent. With Premium, the app shows no ads and doesn't start Google's ad technology.
Controller
The controller responsible for data processing within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
SeidelProjects GbR
Vilsendorfer Straße 47a
33739 Bielefeld
Germany
Email: kontakt@seidelprojects.de
Represented by its partners: Gerrit Stephan Seidel, Erik Seidel.
Scope
This policy applies to the mobile app Heartdays. For our website, the general privacy policy applies.
What data we process
The following overview shows which data we process, for what purpose and on what legal basis.
| Category | Examples | Purpose | Legal basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Support requests | Your email address, your name if you give it, the content of your message, plus the app version and iOS version the app adds to the draft email | Answering your request, fixing bugs | Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract), otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering) | Until your request has been fully dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations require us to keep it |
Your entries stay with you
Everything you create in Heartdays, such as occasions, names, dates, phone numbers, emojis, reminders and gift ideas with notes, prices and photos, is stored by the app on your iPhone or iPad. If iCloud is turned on, the app syncs this data with your other devices through your private iCloud database. That database belongs to your Apple Account; we have no access to it. Apple's privacy policy applies.
If you delete an entry, the app deletes it in iCloud too. If you delete the app, your data stays in your iCloud; you can delete it in your device's iCloud settings.
Reminders and widgets
The app schedules reminders and the weekly preview on the device as local notifications; nothing goes to a server for this. Notifications on the Lock Screen show the name and the occasion, never the title of a gift. The widgets read your entries directly on the device.
Photos
You choose a photo for a gift with the iOS photo picker. The app only sees the photo you pick, not your library. It scales the photo down and stores it without metadata such as location and time taken.
Sending your wishes
When you tap WhatsApp, Message or Call, Heartdays opens that app with the saved number. For WhatsApp, Heartdays uses a link to wa.me; if WhatsApp isn't installed, this link opens in your browser, and WhatsApp receives the number. What you write and whether you send it is up to you in that app. Heartdays never sends anything itself.
Ads in the free version
The free version is funded by ads from Google AdMob. Ads only appear after you've saved your first entry. Before that, a window from Google asks whether you agree to processing for advertising. Then iOS asks whether Heartdays may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites (App Tracking Transparency).
To serve and measure the ads, Google receives your IP address and an approximate location derived from it, information about your device, operating system and language, device identifiers, information about which ads you've seen or tapped, and diagnostic data from the ad technology. Google only receives your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) if you allow tracking.
If you consent, Google may tailor the ads to you; the legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act, TDDDG). If you decline, the app still shows ads, but not tailored to you; the legal basis is then our legitimate interest in funding the free version through ads (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings › Ad Privacy, and tracking in your device's settings under Privacy & Security › Tracking. Withdrawing consent applies to the future.
Google is responsible for this processing itself. How Google uses data from its partners' apps is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
In AdMob we only allow ads suitable for teenagers and block sensitive categories. With Premium, the app shows no ads, doesn't ask for consent to advertising and doesn't start Google's ad technology.
Purchases
You buy Premium through the App Store. Apple handles the purchase; we don't receive payment details or names. The app checks on your device, using Apple's receipts, whether Premium is active. Apple sends us aggregated sales reports that don't identify you.
Getting the app from the app stores
When you download the app, the information required for this is transferred to the respective store, in particular your user name, email address, customer number, time of download and device identifier. We have no influence on this collection, and it is not carried out by us. The operator of the respective store (Apple or Google) is responsible for it.
Analytics and tracking
Heartdays contains no analytics of its own and no crash reporting service. We only see crash reports if you've agreed to share them with app developers in your device's settings; Apple passes them on without your entries. Tracking only happens in the free version, and only if you allow it (see Ads in the free version).

The following service providers process data on our behalf. They are bound by our instructions and may not use the data for their own purposes.
